A long but useful blog. The comment on GDP is worth considering. Focus on sustainability is gaining importance in most businesses. In fact many MNCs allocate a few pages in their annual balance sheet reporting their achievements on the sustainability actions. Some companies get external auditors to audit their sustainability results. While it may be a slow reaction, it’s a fact that the need to grow in a sustainable way is spreading everywhere. Let us do our part in every possible way. All the best to the author
as someone who used to do those sustainability reporting and corporate reporting for a while, it is still quite PR and communications focused for a large part. Even with external auditors, there are levels of assurance that vary with the level of scrutiny they offer. Often it is what is left out than what is put in that is crucial, and I've had my fair share of being asked to leave out certain things :)
Ultimately like you say to include in Annual Reports, better than standalone sustainability reports, is absolutely a good step forward but we do need more beyond that. Which is why I like the model I alluded to and will cover next time. It looks tricky to implement against how we measure success in this world, and it at least could start shifting thinking.
Thank you for the comment, appreciate it very much :)
